Mesa de Sociedad Civil para la Transparencia en las Industrias Extractivas appointed its representatives to the Multi-Stakeholder Committee of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).

On December 18, 2013, the members of the Roundtable of Civil Society Organizations for Transparency in the Extractive Industries elected the three representatives for the Multiparty Committee of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI): Transparencia por Colombia, Universidad Externado de Colombia, Comité de Seguimiento a la Inversión de las Regalías (CSIR) Sucre.

This election process was carried out through virtual voting and was supported by a scrutiny committee formed by Fundación Avina and Gestión Ambiental Estratégica, both member organizations of the Mesa.(Communication Scrutiny Committee Designation of Civil Society representatives).

Prior to the designation of the representatives, the Civil Society Organizations Roundtable held workshops on EITI in Bogotá, Neiva, Montería, Villavicencio and Barranquilla, in order to inform about the scope of this initiative, gather local expectations regarding the Initiative, identify the challenges and issues to be addressed in the EITI action plan, and obtain inputs to support the representation of civil society before the Multi-Party Committee.

At the end of January 2014, the Civil Society Roundtable for Transparency in the Extractive Industries will hold a planning workshop. The first meeting of the EITI Multi-Party Committee will be held in February, with the participation of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the National Tax and Customs Directorate (DIAN), and the National Planning Department (DNP) representing the National Government, as well as Ecopetrol, the Large Scale Mining Sector and the Colombian Petroleum Association for the Private Sector.
